Mark Bryant’s Liquid Tricks
Baitworks founder Mark Bryant shares a couple of simple liquid tricks he uses to add pulling power to pellets and mixers while stalking, including the heavy LO30 liquid fish and the ever-faithful hot fish oil. Full transcript below.
A quick stalking session
Join me on a lovely summer’s day over in the Cotswolds. This fishery is a perfect little venue for me, I live up the road, it’s about three miles from here, so a lot of the time I finish work and pop round for a look and a bit of stalking. This time of year, float fishing for me is fantastic, great fun. I walked around a couple of swims, found some fish in a little bay sunning themselves, and mugged one quite quickly, this 25-pound common you can see now, an absolute cracking fish.
Two liquids to lift bland pellets
To help with the attraction, there are a couple of products I’ve used here to enhance the pellets, which are quite bland in nature. One is the LO30. This isn’t a new product in the industry, it’s been around for years as a by-product of the fishmeal-making process. It’s basically liquid fish, but one important factor is that it’s heavy. So when you coat this on mixers or anything like that and then put oil over the top to hold it on, as it goes into the water the droplets disperse, and because it’s heavy it falls down through the water column rather than staying up top. It’s a great product.
We source a lot of this when we bring it in from abroad, and one key thing: we don’t cut it with anything, it’s pure. It comes in a massive drum, with a liquid that separates on top, and we mix that through and give you an uncut version. A lot of companies will cut this to make more money, but we sell you the pure product. Superb.
Combine that with our ever-faithful hot fish oil and you’ve got liquid signals going out everywhere.
Proven on the bank
A couple of anglers, Rob Morris and Shane O’Grady, have really got on with these two products over the last year. I sneaked them a couple of bottles over the summer and they kept it under wraps a little bit, but they’ve been catching a lot of fish, up to 38 pound. So a couple of products to juice up your mixes and your chums, and alternatively you can put them onto boilies as well. Loads of applications, an absolutely fantastic couple of products that will help you catch plenty of fish.
